Gregg Hires, LICSW

Gregg began his counseling career as the Administrator and Clinical Director of the Flying H Youth Ranch in 1972, and also maintained a thriving Private Practice in Selah, Washington for several years before moving to his current location at Lake Aspen Park in Yakima, WA. He is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, the American Association of Christians in Social Work and is listed as a counselor with Focus on the Family as well as several other Christian organizations. Gregg holds a BA in Sociology and a Masters of Arts degree in Social Work from the University of Missouri. Additionally, Gregg has had postgraduate studies in Chemical Dependency, Residential Treatment of Adolescence, Behavior and Anger Management and Psychological testing. Gregg has taken additional courses in Marriage Counseling with the Gottman Institute in Seattle, WA. Gregg and Glenna have been marriage 25 years and blended a family of 7 children after both being widowed. Gregg founded Bethel Ridge Family Resources in 2001, a faith based ministry serving individuals, couples, families, pastors and missionaries.

Glenna Hires, LMHCA

Glenna has been in the counseling field since 1973 as a High School counselor/teacher, a Crisis-Intervention counselor, and currently as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate with a Private Practice at Lake Aspen Park in Yakima, WA. Glenna graduated from Central Washington University with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Family Studies and a Master’s of Arts in School Counseling. In addition, Glenna holds a Masters of Arts degree in Professional Counseling as well as training in Family Counseling, Grief & Loss, Eating Disorders, and Chemical Dependency. Glenna is also a certified Bringing Baby Home facilitator with the Gottman Institute. She is also a current member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Glenna has training in marriage counseling with the Gottman Institute. Glenna was employed by ESD 105 as a trainer for school staff and administrators in Crisis Response Planning.

Hannah Halverson, CHC, CLC

Hannah Halverson is a Certified Health Coach, as well as a Certified Life Coach, who is a Graduate Student working on becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Hannah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Health and Safety Sciences with an emphasis on health, wellness, physiology, occupational health and safety. Hannah has also worked as a Personal Trainer and is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Hannah has experience working with anxiety, depression, marital issues, and individuals who have been diagnosed with Autism. Her Wellness Approach incorporates the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of health. She focuses on a journey towards optimum health that promotes lasting, positive change in the lives of her clients. Hannah has been married over 15 years, and resides in Selah, WA with her husband and three kids.

Mark Heeringa, LMHC

Mark Heeringa is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and the newest addition to the Bethel Ridge Family Resources team. Mark has nineteen years of counseling experience with youth, adolescents, adults, and families. He has a Bachelors of General Studies from Ball State University and a Masters of Arts in Counseling, Marriage and Family Track, from Indiana Wesleyan University. Since moving to Yakima in 1999, he has worked in community mental health settings, private practice, DSHS referred in-home-therapy, and was the clinical director of a youth group home. He is both a Mental Health Specialist with Children and with Developmentally Disabled clientele. Mark is married with two children and a variable number of dogs.

Jaylene Stark, LMHCA

Jaylene Stark recently graduated with her Masters in Professional Counseling with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has a Bachelors of Science in Christian Counseling and has over 20 years of experience working in non-profit organizations that are aimed at empowering women, adolescents and families.

Jaylene is a current member of the American Counseling Association and is excited to provide a safe, nurturing space where people can grow and heal. Jaylene has experience working with couples in crisis and people struggling with depression and anxiety. She has a special interest in working with families in crisis and families dealing with perinatal depression and infertility. Jaylene has been married for 12 years and after her own battle with infertility now has three young children.

Shannon Gaskell, MA, LMHC

Shannon has had six years of counseling experience working with children, adolescents and adults in individual, group and family sessions utilizing evidence-based practices and integrating faith into services. Previous to working at Bethel Ridge, Shannon worked in an outpatient community mental health setting. Shannon completed her Masters of Arts in Counseling at Western Seminary, in Portland, Oregon, where she received Bible and Theology courses in addition to counseling courses, as well as specialized courses in how to integrate faith into counseling. She also received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Central Washington University. Shannon is trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy Plus, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy and couples therapy through the PREPARE-ENRICH program, along with many workshops and trainings for continuing education with depression, anxiety and trauma. Shannon has a special interest in group counseling and in working with individuals who have experienced trauma.

Shannon has been married for ten years and resides in Selah with her husband and three young children.

Kathryn J. Lanthorn-Cárdenas, CFMHE, EdD, LMHC

Kathy Lanthorn-Cárdenas, EdD, is a licensed mental health counselor. She is a child mental health specialist, a minority mental health specialist (Latino) and she is LIST Certified in Spanish. Dr. Lanthorn-Cárdenas offers family, child, individual and couples counseling.

Dr. Lanthorn-Cárdenas is also a certified forensic mental health evaluator. She is certified by the National Board of Forensic Evaluators (NBFE) which is recognized by the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) and the American Counseling Association (ACA). She provides forensic mental health evaluations to attorneys, courts, individuals and organizations.

Dr. Lanthorn-Cárdenas specializes in parenting, family or couple separation, work or personal stress, chronic illness/pain, anxiety, sadness/loss, divorce, and child behavior.

I offer a variety of services: counseling, psychotherapy, and health behavior change. I utilize a variety of therapy approaches and maintain a pragmatic common sense approach to client concerns and the therapy process.

I have two Master’s Degrees: one from the State University of New York at Cortland and a second from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. Since 1990, I have worked as a Recreation Therapist, Counselor, program administrator, and educator.

What kinds of problems are appropriate for an EAP consultation?

Parenting questions, stress management, child/adolescent concerns, grief and loss, drug and alcohol use, marriage and family, communication challenges, work-related issues, agin parents, depression, anxiety, or other behavioral health concerns.

EAP Availability

When you call, you will be able to schedule an appointment without charge. at the time you make the appointment, please identify yourself and the company providing your EAP benefit. The receptionist wills for you name and a vernal description of the problem you want to discuss, this helps determine which counselor will be the best fit for you.
