Today was a very special day for us. Engine 96 and Engine 94’s crews got to meet and spend time with Tricia and her kids.
On March 18th, 2023, Tricia’s family experienced the unimaginable. Her 10 year old son had found her lying down and thought she was choking. Tricia had been sick recently, and Tricia’s mother went to check on her and assumed she was just coughing, but found her unresponsive, and pulseless.
Tricia’s mother began CPR and instructed her kids to call 911. Unfortunately, her phone was locked and the kids had trouble getting the call out to 911. After 40 minutes of CPR by Tricia’s mother, the call finally went out and our crews were dispatched for a CPR in progress.
Engine 96 arrived on scene to find Tricia had regained a pulse from her mother’s compressions. Shortly after their arrival, Tricia went into cardiac arrest again. Engine 96 and Engine 94, along with medics, did CPR for over 40 minutes. Crews ultimately regained a pulse again, and Tricia was transported to the hospital.
After a short stay in ICU and in the hospital, she was released, and today has made a nearly 100% recovery!
It’s stories like Tricia’s that are the reason we do what we do. Tricia’s daughter Mili had a special message for our crews: “Thank you for saving mom.”
